SEO is Always Evolving & Must be Studied
SEO is a mystery to those who don’t study it. If you run a successful plumbing company SEO is probably one of the farthest things from your mind. Running a plumbing business is complicated. It’s time consuming and you have to focus on it it all the time. SEO is similar. So, like plumbing, SEO is always evolving. Like plumbing, SEO has to be studied. We need to keep up or knowledge base. Education is a constant.
SEO has many elements that never seem to change. Great content, page speed, a well structured website and social media network are all staples of good SEO. But, Google always seems to throw a wrinkle into their algorithms. In turn, this can have an effect on Google’s search engine results page (SERP). In other words, Google can change their rankings when they tweak their algorithms.
Google is somewhat clandestine when they make changes with their algorithms. They always have a name for their algorithms. Panda, Hummingbird and Penguin are names for past algorithm changes. But, Google is somewhat vague about the descriptions on the their algorithm changes. Google does explain what the changes are in new algorithms , but the interpretation is always up for discussion.
We Study Google
When Google makes changes we are left to study them. We can sometimes see the changes in local Google rankings. But, many time there is no change with our plumbing client’s Google ranking. This is especially noticeable when our plumbing client is #1 on Google for “plumber near me” searches. Good solid SEO always seem to trump whatever Google throws our way. Google’s changes in algorithms is never really radical as far we can see. So, here’s how we look at it. Google is always trying to get better results for the people that search for what they want. Lately, Google has been concentrating on getting questions better answered for their users. So, it’s an improvement, which is what Google strives for. It’s how Google evolves.
